ABOUT MODEL UNITED NATIONS

Model United Nations (MUN) is an academic simulation where students learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations. MUN 4.0 – Committee and Agenda

UNSC

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations and was established in 1945 under the UN Charter. It holds the primary responsibility for maintaining international peace and security and is regarded as the most powerful body within the UN framework. Unlike other committees, the UNSC has the authority to make binding decisions that member states are obligated to implement, including the imposition of sanctions, the authorization of the use of force, and the deployment of peacekeeping missions. The Council consists of fifteen members — five permanent members (China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States) with veto power, and ten non-permanent members elected for two-year terms by the General Assembly. The UNSC plays a vital role in addressing global crises and conflicts, ensuring the enforcement of international law, and upholding the principles of peace and security across the international community.

Agenda: The Politics of Peacekeeping: UNSC’s Mandate versus the Self-Interest of Permanent Members

UNHRC

The Human Rights Council is an inter-governmental body within the United Nations system responsible for strengthening the promotion and protection of human rights around the globe and for addressing situations of human rights violations and make recommendations on them. It has the ability to discuss all thematic human rights issues and situations that require its attention throughout the year. It meets at the UN Office at Geneva.

Agenda: Persecution of Religious Minorities in the Name of National Interest: A Human Rights Perspective

Lok Sabha

The Lok Sabha, constitutionally the House of the People, is the lower house of India's bicameral Parliament, with the upper house being the Rajya Sabha. Members of the Lok Sabha are elected by an adult universal suffrage and a first-past-the-post system to represent their respective constituencies, and they hold their seats for five years or until the body is dissolved by the President on the advice of the council of ministers. The house meets in the Lok Sabha Chambers of the Sansad Bhavan, New Delhi.

Agenda: Preserving Linguistic Diversity: The Politics of Language Imposition in a Federal Democracy

Vidhan Sabha

On 1 May 1960, the Bombay State was bifurcated into Gujarat and Maharashtra states which resulted in formation of Gujarat Legislative Assembly. The 132 members of the former Bombay legislative assembly, elected from the territorial constituencies of Gujarat, formed the first Gujarat Legislative Assembly

Agenda: Gujarat's Development Model: Ground Reality vs. Political Projection

Dalal Street

A one-of-a-kind event in which stocks, bonds, and commodities will be auctioned off. To ace this round, you must have strong judgment, decision-making skills, and knowledge of stock market price trends. This is a fantastic learning experience for stock market lovers, made much more enjoyable by the auctioning aspect.

Agenda: Bullring round and witness the dynamics of the entire stock market

The Press

International Press Institute (IPI) is a global organisation dedicated to the promotion and protection of press freedom and the improvement of journalism practices. The institution was founded by 34 editors from 15 countries at Columbia University in October, 1950 and has members in over 120 countries as of 2021.

Need of the program

Model UN is a popular activity for those interested in learning more about how the UN operates. MUN is designed to bring together students from different backgrounds to engage in meaningful discussions and debates on pressing global issues. The primary aim of this program is to provide students with a platform to gain practical knowledge of diplomacy and international affairs, as well as a hands-on understanding of domestic political spheres and workings.

This program offers a unique opportunity for students to experience the practical world of diplomacy and international relations, with a focus on co-curricular growth. It helps to build and maintain strong links between the UN and Model UN participants across the globe. It does that through guides and workshops, which teach students how to make their simulations more accurate; by visiting Model UN conferences and sharing firsthand knowledge of what the actual UN is like; and through encouraging Model UN clubs to take real action to support UN values and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Expected Outcomes
  • Participants will gain some understanding on how UN operates
  • Participants will be able to refine their debating skills
  • Students will learn how to communicate among the group.
  • Candidates will be able to enhance their research ability and critical thinking skills.
  • They will be able to gain and improve their general knowledge in relation with different political studies.
