ABOUT MODEL UNITED NATIONS

Model United Nations is a simulation of the United Nations (UN), where students represent delegates from various countries to engage in debates and discussions on global issues. Participants engage in intense research, public speaking, and critical thinking to represent their assigned country and develop resolutions to address pressing global concerns. MUN also includes national committees like the Lok Sabha and the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, where students get to represent themselves as parliamentarians. MUN is a globally recognized phenomenon, with conferences taking place all over the world, from New York to Tokyo and from London to Sydney. These conferences provide an opportunity for students to meet and interact with peers from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.

Model United Nations (MUN) is an academic simulation where students learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations. Participants take on the roles of delegates from various countries, organizations, or individuals and work to address real-world issues from the perspective of their assigned role. MUN participants have the opportunity to enhance their skills in research, public speaking, debating, and writing, while also developing key competencies like critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership.

Following the remarkable success of the first two editions, which attracted nearly 400 enthusiastic participants, we are eager to continue promoting the MUN culture in the Saurashtra region. We are thrilled to announce that RK University City Campus will host the third edition of the Model United Nations conference (MUN 3.0) on 14th and 15th September 2024. MUN 3.0 will feature six vibrant committees, including Lok Sabha, GLA, UNHRC, UNGA, Press, Dalal Street, and more. Each committee offers a compelling platform for debate, diplomacy, and decision-making.

Need of the program

Model UN is a popular activity for those interested in learning more about how the UN operates. MUN is designed to bring together students from different backgrounds to engage in meaningful discussions and debates on pressing global issues. The primary aim of this program is to provide students with a platform to gain practical knowledge of diplomacy and international affairs, as well as a hands-on understanding of domestic political spheres and workings.

This program offers a unique opportunity for students to experience the practical world of diplomacy and international relations, with a focus on co-curricular growth. It helps to build and maintain strong links between the UN and Model UN participants across the globe. It does that through guides and workshops, which teach students how to make their simulations more accurate; by visiting Model UN conferences and sharing firsthand knowledge of what the actual UN is like; and through encouraging Model UN clubs to take real action to support UN values and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Expected Outcomes:
  • Participants will gain some understanding on how UN operates.
  • Participants will be able to refine their debating skills
  • Students will learn how to communicate among the group.
  • Candidates will be able to enhance their research ability and critical thinking skills.
  • They will be able to gain and improve their general knowledge in relation with different political studies.
